Your Story pt.2

This year’s summer vacation is a thrill for most Akins’ students and the feeling of it being just around the corner, sparks anxiousness among people. I personally think that everyone has been waiting for summer ever since it ended last year and there’s a wide variety of things to do, some involving academics and… PARTYING!! Summer can be about chillin’ with friends, but it can also be about seeing your family whether you like them or not. When asked if he planned on leaving Austin this summer, Nathaniel Buescher nodded and said, “Minnesota to see family.” On the other hand, when asked if he was going to spend his summer with friends or family, Aaron Cardenas laughed and responded, “Friends because I don’t like my family.” One thing is for sure, and that is that most students can’t wait anymore to hear that last bell to ring and mark the end of this school year. What exactly is it that makes people so anxious for summer? Well Angel Arana, a JROTC member recently commented that he’s “Ready because [he’s] tired of these hallways and this cafeteria food!” I definitely back that up because it seems like you’re trapped within this school at times and its just the same old boring classes and hallways. Against the cafeteria food, that is a reason why many would like to get out of school and just eat whatever they like at whatever time they’d like. In some cases, you see students getting themselves into trouble with the law, such as being crazy and doing illegal stuff such as drinking under age, drugs, and things in that range, but for being known as someone who fools around a lot, sophomore Angel Arana gets serious about the topic and straight up says,“ No, that’s stupid!!” while explaining that summer is about having fun, enjoying life, and go swimming! Speaking about swimming, water parks are going to be full of kids trying to have fun and a way to entertain themselves this summer. Nathaniel Buescher, Valedictorian for class of 2013 energetically responded, ” Yes Schlitterbahn!” when asked where he saw himself for most of his summer. Other than that, others might go to “Seaworld,” just as Aaron Cardenas stated as he thought where to go in terms of a theme park for the summer. When you think about summer and letting loose and just having fun, you think parties and that’s exactly where people will be instead of coming to school. Well it’s no fun going to parties by yourself, which is why Angel Arana said he was going to spend most of his summer with his brother and later said, “We’re gonna party!” Well, whether you summer includes family, theme parks, friends, parties, and the hot sun, everyone wants it “be live!,” just as freshman Aaron Cardenas would like his.

Architecture Preview-

Angles and shapes
This picture has symmetry incorporated within itself as the triangle is symmetrical in each side of the cut. The triangular shaped building is made out of square-looking shapes and then towards the bottom, they are rectangles.

Architecture Preview- Surrounding

Surrounding
In this story, the setting makes the house seem more eye-popping and makes it stick out through all the green going on. The little hills make it have depth and make the house look steady in the ground.

Architecture Preview- Patterns

Patterns
The multiple arches in the building provide the eye to see a rhythm to the building and the colors add an eye-catching sensation.

Architecture Preview- Light

Light
This natural light travels throught the bridge making it not seem all dark and scary, but more of a pathway along the wooden architecture. Not only does the narrow strip of light create a cool scene to look at, but it also gives it a sense of outdoors and nature.

Architecture Preview- Detail

Details
This picture wasn't just another typical shot of a church but it's what makes this building what it is. The photographer actually got up close (and by looking at it, seems like he had to get on something since this statue looks to be up high) and capture the statues on what seem to be by the top of the church. These details symbolize what the church is and not just the actual architecture but something incorporated in it.

Next shoot - Action/Sports

Name of photographer- Alyssa Schukar

General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)- Stories

List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio - With the story about the eating disorder, one judge thought that it could have been better and he has seen it made better. On the same story, one judge didn't really see any emotions and feelings behind them. There was no strong singles either.

List two things the judges like- They liked the picture with the guy sweeping because it had a really nice background to it and it complemented the picture good. They also liked the girl that fell in the hurdles becuase in the picture, you can see her legs just pointed out and her emotion. one of the judges liked the picture with the guys in the stairwell because there was a nice graphic to it.

What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like?- My overall impression, was that some pictures could have been shot better whether it had been due to the lighting or what objects it had or possibly what it didn't have. Something that I did like was how in some pictures it told a story with the emotions that showed within the character.

Who is involved?- the movie "The Hurt Locker" and Oscar winners

Who does/did the situation affect?- it didn't really affect anybody, i mean the winners were happy and all. The directer of "The Hurt Locker" was shocked because even though "Avatar" did a lot better, the crew took home 6 Oscars home.

Who said so?- The author of the article sort of implied it.

What is happening?- "The Hurt Locker" took home 6 Oscars, along with other actors winning some too.

What did happen?- The Oscar's were on last night and the "Hurt Locker" won six oscar awards.

What are the consequences?- Actors/producers were very happy and exited when they won.

What is different about this?- Only the best of the best win these kinds of awards and these people get recognized for it.

What are the choices?- The choices were between people in that category.

When did or will this happen?- March 8,2010

Why did this happen or will it happen?- The Oscar's is an award show that is on every year and awards the best movies and actors along with the people that made them happen.

How did it or will it happen?- Well, people are in charge of putting it on and making it happen. They decorized the place and built the stage and everything.

How much does it cost?- I'm guessing that in order to see the Oscars live you would pay minimum $60 or something.

How many people does this affect?- It affects all of the nominees because they all of course want to win. It affects the audience because they're are there expecting for their movie to win and everything and it affects the winners because it may open doors to them for other movies or projects.

How do you feel about this? I feel that it's a good show to watch and i personally watch it every year.

Atomium, Belgium

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Architect: AndrƩ Waterkeyn

Date Built: 1958, then reconstruction began in March 2004 and ended February 18, 2006

Reason for building: The original idea was to build it so that it looked like an upside-down version of the Eiffel tower. However, Waterkeyn felt that an atomic structure would be more symbolic of the era.

Public vs. Private: This is a public attraction

Cost: There is no info. on the cost of the original building, but restoration had a budget reaching 25 million euros.

My reason: I'm thinking that I'm really into futuristic kinds of architecture because I just think that it's cool looking and is just an eye-catching sort of thing. It looks like it came out of a movie and just placed there. I like how the structure of it is basically like spheres and not just a square of something. I mean it's not really a building, but just spheres and yea it's so cool. It's just something i would like to go see!

National Centre for the Performing Arts, China

Location: Beijing, China

Architect: Paul Andreu

Date built: July 2007

Cost: over 3.2 billion

Private vs. Public: It is a public attraction

Reason for the building: It was designed as an iconic feature, something that would be immediately recognizable.
My reason: The reason I chose this building was for the fact that it looks incredible and it's just a must-see iconic place. They used this building for the 2009 Olympics and really must have gotten people's attention because i know it got mine. It looks like an egg just floating in that lake, which in fact is artifical! Woah, it's just really cool! What i liked about this building was the features that it had and how awsome it looked with lights and how it looks all futuristic.

Turning Torso, Sweden

Architect: Santiago Calatrava

Date built: August 27, 2005

Location: Malmƶ, Sweden

Private vs. Public: It is a private residential building

Cost: SEK1.6 billion

Reason for the building: One reason for the building of Turning Torso was to re-establish a recognizable skyline for Malmƶ since the removal of the Kockums Crane in 2002, which was located less than a kilometre from Turning Torso.

My reason: I chose this building because it's something new to see, like it's not just an ordinary piece of architecture but it's unique. The fact that this place looks like a torso that seems to be twisted, which is probably why it got its name from, it has so much to it too like how green it is. For example, when heat is needed they use locally renewable energy. It's so cool becuase when you think of buildings as big as these and amazing as this you would imagine them wasting so much money on lights and heat and stuff like that, but this one is green and contributes with the earth:)

Burj Al Arab, Dubai
Architect: Tom Wright
Date built: Construction began in 1994 and ended in 2000
Cost: No info.
Location: The beachfront area where the Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel are located was previously called Chicago Beach. The hotel is located on an island of reclaimed land offshore of the beach of the former Chicago Beach Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Private vs. Public: This is a public building due to the fact that it is a hotel.
Reason for this architecture: it was designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a ship
My reason: I chose this building because not only is it one of the tallest buildings but on where its location is. I have never heard of such place with an artificial beach and all and the fact that it costs so much to get a room in this hotel or to eat in the restaurant, it should be like a dream. I had seen this building on the discovery channel once and it just amazed me because of its structure. It really swept me off of my feet when i realized that it was basically built on the beach like meaning inside the water! I mean that's just so cool!!

Habitat 67, Canada

Habitat 67

It was designed by architect Moshe Safdie and built in 1967. Located in Montreal, Canada, this famous housing complex is home to 146 people, which is cool because who wouldn't want to live there?! Habitat 67 soon became a thematic pavilion invaded by thousands of admiring visitors that came from all around the world. You would imagine such futuristic building to cost so much, but unfortunately construction costs proved to be prohibitive. This amazing architecture was designed to give privacy, fresh air, sunlight and suburban amenities in an urban location. It was designed as a permanent settlement and consists of 158 little apartments. The reason I chose this building was because I had seen this place in a movie before so i wanted to learn more about it. In the movie, it seemed all futuristic and cool looking and I mean who wouldn't want to know more about it? Another reason I chose Habitat 67, was because it just had more to it like it was different and very green. It's like one of those things that are good for the environment like those cars that run on electricity and the sight just looked lovely!

Cover History

Early Magazine Cover- These early magazine covers kinda jump started the process of making the next generation better and to just improve them. For example, in the early 1700's covers really didn't have covers such as we see in magazines now a days that actually have some design to it like wavy lines or some kind of pattern. It wasn't until the early 1800's and on that people decided that these covers should have some kind of thing to it like illustrations.

The Poster Cover- These covers were like pieces of art in just a paper. The art foreshadowed the magazine and it had so much to it. During this time, nobody could argue that this was the way to create such cover and they wanted to keep it going in that direction. Later on These covers started including actual photographs of the main person or the headline of which the magazine was going to be about. They started the whole taking a picture of a person and everything.

Pictures Married To Type- In this era, cover lines were more important when making a cover because that's where you go to look at what's inside the magazine and depending on how it looks it takes an impact on whether or not your gonna want to pick it up read it. As time went by, these cover lines had more expressions to them like for example "discovering new things" or something and it just attracted the reader more. Even though you have an amazing photograph, you also have to have something to go with them like amazing cover lines and that"s exactly what they did.

In The Forest Of Words- In these covers, there was more use of models and people rather than an artistic poster kind of cover. There are more vivid stuff going on in the cover than before and this was by the 2000's. Also, lines in the cover sometimes appeared larger than the actual name of the magazine like for example, the name "seventeen" might have been smaller in font than another name in the magazine like big news or something

2009 in review-favorite movie

This movie was sooo funny yet emotional and I loved it! I saw it with my friends and each and everyone of us cracked up and enjoyed it. I would definately see it over again and will be cracking up as the first time. It was also sad, but I liked it (5 stars!!)

20009 in review- The most important piece of world news

The word "Hope" says it ALL, hope for the future and hope for everyone out there. 2009 was all about the first African American president and how he was going to bring hope to this nation. I was pretty darn happy that he had won and pretty pleased what he has done so far. In world news I COMPLETELY agree that nation-wide, people are looking foward to what this man will bring to the table.

2009 in review- favorite photo

How could anyone deny the fact that THE WHOLE world was happy that bush got out of the picture and made room for Obama? This is my favorite photo of 2009 because it kinda sums up the whole 2009 and what it brought. I also loved this photo because of the way it shows how Bush is taken out and Obama is being put into the glass frame, which i thought it was pretty funny hehe....

2009 in review- best song

"Forever"

I chose the song "Forever" by Drake ft. Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Eminem as my favorite song for 2009 because it included the best. They seriously killed the song and came out SOOO good! This song got stuck in my head forever (lol) and definately ♥ Eminem's part.

Plan for Portrait Assigment

For this portrait assignment. I think I would like to take a capture my friends in the picture and they're all just smiling and laughing and just having fun. I want to capture how much fun we all have together and a bit of every one's personality. MY friends that will be included in the photo will be Josefina, Jasmine, Rosa, Ariel, Danielle and maybe some of the boys that help make going to the movies or just go out to eat really fun and everything. Where will I shoot them? Well, I'm thinking of maybe shooting it by the band hall close to the place where the big rocks are because it will represent where we hang out in the mornings and how much fun we have there and it also shows how much we hang out in school despite us not having the same classes. To make the shot successful, I will really have to think at which angle I'm going to be taking it and if the lighting is good enough because there has to be sun and bright outside so that it can symbolize fun and joy not sadness and depression. Also, I'm going to be thinking about if the props are adequate for the picture, which in this case are going to be the huge rocks. I don't know how many pictures of them I'm going to take, but they're going to be something about my life like school and FRIENDS and maybe my boyfriend but those I'm going to have to think the same about... is the angle good? Should I break the rules in some? Will I use props or what? but I know that I have to really capture who my subject is and what they like to do or what is their personality like.

Portrait and self-portrait tips and writing your ideas

1.Most portraits are taken with the camera at (or around) the eye level of the subject. While this is good common sense – completely changing the angle that you shoot from can give your portrait a real WOW factor.

2. You can create an especially revealing self-portrait by adding personal memorabilia surrounding your mirrored image, such as photos of yourself at various stages of your life, or anything that tells the viewer about your interests. Besides a mirror, a window can sometimes offer a reflective surface for you to capture your own image.

3. If you’ve got a subject or two or more who are just plain uncomfortable, seek out privacy for the shoot as much as possible. If you’ve got something in your head that you’re working towards and your subject just isn’t diggin’ it… drop it and move on to something else.

Portraits and Self-Portrait (continued)

To make a good photo, I think that the image has to represent something like there has to be a purpose or a story behind it. It should express that the photographer like if he/she is all emo and stuff then they might like take a really dark looking photo for example or something to represent them. The photo should also have some emotion to it and can tell a story in a way. I think I would really like to take a picture of someone else and see how that goes. I would like to express that person in a way of a picture.

Winter Break

My most favorite memory of the break was when my dad, sister, and I went and played some tennis and it was cold that day and it was just fun because I kept winning (of course) haha...

Well most of the time I just stayed home and played on the wii that I got for Christmas and played for hours. I didn't go anywhere out of the state but I did go to the mall and was grounded for the break so I really couldn't go out with my friends to the movies or fun stuff like that.

If I looked back at 2009 while being 225 yrs. old, I would remember being in tennis as an 8th grader and a freshman and how much fun it was and how of a new experience it was for me. I would also remember how much fun I had at UT sleeping over and just having fun with my friends and all the crazy things we did there. 2009 was also sad because I went from being in middle school to going to high school and all the people that I left behing, but also the new people that I have met along the way.

Photos of the year 2009

The thing about this photo that made me pick it was the fact that you can see all these candles that were liten up all over the place and it's a MAGNIFICENT view. The photographer used repetition in this photo. I don't know, but this photo just really makes me go "WOW" because it's facinating!

Photos of the year 2009

The reason I picked this photo as one of my favorites was because of how it has the curved lines of the highways behind the main subject. I thought that the fact that the man's tie is kind of flowing away was kinda and sort of weird, but now that i think about it, it adds a cool thing towards it because there's like wind and everything. The photographer definately used the rule of lines and they were indeed curved. I also think he did a sort of viewpoint thing in there too so that the man and the highways really blend in together and overall it looks GRRRREAT!

What I absolutely loved about this photo is the fact that the whole thing takes place in the dark and then there's this dark blue light-ray and it alluminates the face of the singer and I just think that's SUPER EXTREMELY cool!! The photographer used lines and it was a diagnal one so no wonder it was pretty dynamic. I picked it as one of my top 3 because it has this cool thing to it and behind it and it really makes you stare at it and everything.
